My name is Esther Bakker. I graduated in 2000 as a goldsmith from the goldsmith vocational school in Amsterdam. The Blue Dodo is my jewelry brand, which I started in April 2020. I have thought about this step for a long time. I have been working for many years as a medical instrument maker at a medical technical company, and this with great pleasure. My goldsmith workbench has always kept a place in the house, and in my spare time I have always kept blacksmithing, albeit on a hobby level. In the last year, the workplace has grown into a small studio, and the need to forge more has grown. In the end I decided to work less to actually forge more and to offer my jewelry. I started with an Instagram feed and an Etsy store. This website is the next step towards an even more professional appearance.
I don't have a "certain style". I find my inspiration everywhere. During a walk on the beach, a holiday in the mountains, the flowers in my garden. I also like to experiment with different techniques, such as pouring in sepia or water, and different surface treatments. It may be that I make completely different jewelry this month than the previous month. Since The Blue Dodo is a project next to my regular job, and my time to forge is limited, I don't take big assignments (like wedding rings). This is because I simply cannot guarantee delivery times for this. I can adjust some jewelry in consultation with you. You may want a different material, or need a different size. In the webshop I hope to overcome this as much as possible by offering these choices immediately when ordering. Some jewelry is as-is.
